RE: Re: Exact Builder of Model Rule
Mark,
I find it interesting that, in the past, when discussing items arising on forums we have always been in accord but on this occasion I am in complete opposition! >>
John B, yes, however note I also labeled my proposal "a compromise" and it's indeed a compromise of my own preferences too (ie, extreme BOM.) Having built complex models with VPs and all that, I think it would be acceptable building accomplishment, as well as considerable time expenditure to build a straightly aligned, competitive model even if a kitmaker (probably retired and humanitarian) were to do the maximum allowed. More likely, NO SUCH kit would ever happen. But I can imagine a friend doing all that for a friend, in the indoor world. (And that kind of help would not last long, probably.) I should not have mentioned F1d because I had in view only AMA BOM. AMA typically (or eventually) defers to FAI rules for a given event where both exist, and no one wants a two-option contest such as AMA F1d and FAI F1d, although such a situation has happened in the past with some FF classes (such as F1G, for a while.)
Anyhow, my simple proposal is probably irrelevant now since even the one PM I have received (so far) is against tweaking BOM in any direction. So, that must mean to leave BOM hinged around a CD's interpretation about what the time expenditure of an "Average Kit" is supposed to be. Oh well, I tried, a final cast.
Mark B
