Mine says Mini Digital Scale on the cover, too. I believe it's the same as the AWS. The top panel has a 18.5mm hole in it and inside the hole there's a disc that the vertical tube is attached to that's just slightly smaller than 18.5. This appears to be attached to an arm which disappears under the panel and is loosely pivoted maybe 5 or 6 mm to the left. The disc is easily accidentally pushed north or south under the top cover panel and that messes up the tare and the reading.
I have a more reliable scale that reads to two decimal places and that'll have to do for awhile. The galloping arthritis has put an end to any ultralight building ambitions I might have ever had.
(But I will have a shot at Thayer's balance tomorrow morning.)
