My reason for building prop halves separately is that I always found it difficult to attach the blade to the single-piece spar. Some of the reasons are:
 

 - the blade is on top of the spar, so access to glue joints was difficult. This was a big problem for me especially when trying to minimize the amount of glue.
 

 - keeping the blades at the right orientation on the pitch gauge while the glue tried was difficult
 

 Building the prop halves separately minimized these difficulties.
