After a discussion with LeoP over e-mail last night, I converted this to a spreadsheet to make is as simple to use as possible.

Once you strip the rubber to the size indicated, you need to tie it off at the length desired. The calculator gives you an extra inch here to tie it off easily and snip off the ends. This should give you the exact target weight.
