I'm learning. I want to build an F1L or two and need to know how to do this before I start. So far the only film I've used is Ultralite, and it hasn't been pretty. I have an old LPP which gets heavier and more out of rig with every new encounter with a basketball hoop and subsequent repair. So It needed a new wing and I needed to learn how to do this the right way.
Rolf Swensson wrote me up his method, dropped off a roll each of Super Ultrafilm and OS for me to play with and sat down with me for a couple of hours to get me started. The LPP needed a new wing, so it was a natural for the film school.
I've been getting suggestions off-line on how to take up the slack around the dihedral break rib, and I've tried a couple out on the original LPP wing, which has lots of slack to play with. The best thing yet, and it's only been 5 hours since my post, seems to be applying glue to the rib sides and then pulling in the film to it with a soft balsa tweezer. If I need to take more in, I can do it again from the opposite surface. Seems to be working on the old wing, which is now a little less horrible to look at.
The question remains, though, of whether the improved aerodynamics (and appearance) is worth the weight of the additional glue.
