Some good flying

Last night in Dunwoody, GA, we were witness to some great flying. Bill Gowen unveiled his new A-6, which put up a fabulous 6:47 on one of only a few test flights before he packed it away for safe keeping.

Bill's protege, Sebastian, put up new records in Senior Standard and Unlimited Catapult Glider with a nice string of flights in the 29-30 second range using his brand new SO glider. I saw one that should have been 33-34 seconds, but it hit a wall during the first circle. Both flier and model are impressive. Expect to see more from this guy, as he is clearly a very fast learner.

Nick Ray, Hope, and I all battled away with our newest F1D products. Nick was having cruise issues, as was Hope, and I had mechanical troubles. After a personal best 23:17 landed with less than 20 turns after lots of ceiling scrubbing and a surprising 18+ minutes of climb, I never made it back to the ceiling on following flights because of preload problems that still have me confused. Following flights revealed that it should have done much longer, but I never quite got past 23 on the remaining flights. To quote a famous opinion, "I'll get you next time, Red Barron!"

By the way, seeing your own F1D cruising around at 32 rpm is pretty fun!
