One advantage of having old guys in the hobby is that they were around when "things" happened. The disadvantage is they might not remember "things" correctly. Let's see what I can do.
When the F1D Team Selection Committee was formed in 1975, to beef up the program to eliminate sandbagging and consequently weak teams, two trophies were created. The Pete Andrews Outstanding Achievement Award went to the most improved flier and the Hamburg trophy went to the top flier in the Team Selection Finals, as incentives to "do your best". I couldn't remember which trophy was which until I went through some 1981 files that included a vote for Ceasar Banks for the Andrews most improved award.
I have no idea when the awarding of these trophies was abandoned and don't have any documents to support names of winners for each cycle. If Rich Doig were with us, I'm sure he would have such documents.
I think it would be nice to find the trophies and resurect the awards.
