Greetings and thank you for the email.

Yes! We might be able to help. Let me first put you in touch with two people that I need to consult, Andrea Thompson and Nicole Zelazny both of whom are copied.

Give us the weekend and through Monday to answer your questions regarding the national championships. Once we determine if we could host, Nicole from our office can begin working with the organization and form an agreement.

To help guide us, please "reply all" with answers to the following questions:

What type of parking needs? How many people coming to campus per day?

How many people in the building at one time? And throughout an entire day?

Any on-floor electrical needs?

Would you want the concession stands open?

Will anyone (vendors) be on site selling anything?

Will you be charging admission?

Do you have a more specific date in mind?

You may also communicate directly with Nicole regarding hourly use of Cole. Phone is 301-226-4404, email is above.

Thanks again for thinking of us and we will be in touch.

Kurt

Dear Mr. Klier,

I am sorry to hear that Mr. Bell has left the University. He had been quite helpful in allowing my son and I to get some off hours flying time at Cole Field House on an hourly rate to prepare our indoor flying models for competition. I have posted some photos to you under separate cover. I hope you may be able to help our national group find a replacement site for the national indoor model airplane competition.

Sincerely,

Michael W. Guth M.D.

My son and I are part of a group of hobbyists who fly rubber band powered model airplanes indoors (no kidding) .  We have been able to use Cole Field House for practice flying  at odd times for an hourly rate arranged through Mr. Bell. He forwarded me your contact information. Recently the national group lost access to a large field house which was the site of the national championships. The group asked me to inquire about using Cole Field House for the event. We would need space from a Tuesday through Sunday preferably in the early summer. We would need to have the central speaker taken down, and would prefer if the goal posts and as many banners as possible  could also be removed. The more fans and air conditioners which could be turned off, the better. The group has been paying $5000 to use the field house Tennessee.  Sadly, the University in Tennessee has installed huge numbers of trophy banners and does not wish to take them down for flying events.

There are many different types of indoor model airplane. They are unguided except rarely by use of a balloon on a string to steer them away from walls or seats. Here is a youtube video of the world championships for F1D flying  in Belgrade this year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjzYvZF7Yak, or you can google youtube F1D chamiphionship. These models weigh less than 1.2 grams and can fly for up to 1 hour on a rubber band in a building of sufficient height such as the Hindenberg Dirigible Hanger in Lakehurst.  I have other photos of our own flights at Cole Field House with scale model planes.

Please let me know if our offer would be in the ballpark for a 5 day rental. I have to arrange some test flying through Mr. Bell as well for upcoming events at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C., you might like to come and watch a few of our flights.

Sincerely,

Michael W. Guth M.D.
