Yes Mike, I do see an advantage, but others may or may not. I have the
wood taped to the base, hold the template against the bottom slider and
post with one hand, and slice with the other.

Also, most of the time I use a Log Spiral or Simplex template. Any
length of rib mathematically has the same percent thickness from a given
template, but that does not mean that you get the best alignment with
wood grain direction at any rib length.
