Dennis Tyson uses a small triangular section of approximately 0.040" balsa on either side of the tissue tubes for his F1D stabs. The same could be used in PP, or a slightly longer tube i.e. 3/8" with flat gussets (of maybe light 1/20") on either side of the tube should work nicely albeit with a small drag penalty.
