Okay, it's fixed.
I couldn't attach the Gowan wing because it's made with two balsa forks that slip down over the stick so the wing sits flush on top (that's the Lew's design). The stick on this is too thick (something to think about there) and it won't go on. So we'll let that trial go for another time.
I put .18 grams of weight on the nose and it helped a lot. Removed the weight, added another pair of strut tubes 10mm back and it flew the same, better but not great, Readded the weight and it was real good. Removed the weight, pushed the wing back another 10mm, and it stayed real good.
I must've made the prop too light.
