The risk of using a non AMA member for timing your flight would be if
your model sets a record during a contest. A contest does not require
two AMA member timers like a record trials do (which is why the the last
West Baden sessions were sanctioned as "contests" and not record trials
so only one timer was needed). So if your timer is non-AMA and you break
the record then you would not be able to submit the application as you
did not have a timer with an AMA number which is required on the
application form. But for timing at a contest I do not think the person
has to be an AMA member.
