I sanded them lightly with 120 or 150 grit, just enough to make them smooth, then used rubber cement to glue to the microfilm. Let it sit a couple of minutes, then rip the microfilm off the edges of the frame and remove it from the water. That is when the fun begins - trying to lift the microfilm off the meniscus of the water can be difficult. Letting the water equalize to room temp helped if I recall. Slightly lift the far edge so you can see the water, then move the film forward (away from you) along that edge gradually rotating the frame until it breaks free and is vertical.

Good luck with the microfilm. It really is beautiful compared to OS film...
