Wombat is correct that the Science Olympiad competition has provided
several beginner events and quite a few of us have been mentors or
coaches for Science Olympiad.

Go to
http://www.soinc.org/sites/default/files/uploaded_files/Wright%20Stuff-Capacitor.pdfto
see the rules for a capacitor-powered trial event.
Other FF SO events have included a helicopter event, a balloon launch
glider event, and the rubber-powered Wright Stuff event that has
produced indoor world championships contestants for the US.

Also look in Division B and C and remember that events rotate and/or use
different rules from year to year.

YahooGroups Indoor_Construction has plans in the files section and Hip
Pocket Aeronautics has a files section with many plans.
