I've always used thinned rubber cement (at least on plastic film, saliva or water and egg white back in the microfilm days). I use about a 50-50 mixture of cement and thinner. Use a very fine brush to coat the spars and ribs. After it's dry I lay the wing (or whatever I'm covering) on the film and run a little of the thinner around the outside of the wing and along the ribs. The thinner will reactivate the rubber cement and evaporates within seconds without leaving any residue.
