Here's a video of the covering of an elevator (RC F3P plane) with 3 micron mylar. It's only a little easier to handle than 0.9 or 0.5 micron film, but it uses the crinkling technique and thinned glue brushed on the structure. The crinkling makes it much easier to handle and seems to disappear once the glue is set.
