Since I coached the WS event at my son's school the last two years it was sort of expected that I was going to coach the Helicopter event even though my son will not be Div C until next year. I'm going to coach his "Storm the Castle" team as well.

I started drawing a rotor design last night and was wondering if any of the experienced Indoor Helicopter FF folks can share any insights such as a good P/D ratio to start with etc....?

Jeff
Personally I've just never been interested in helicopters - either the indoor version or real ones. I think I subscribe to the theory that helicopters don't fly - they're just so ugly that the ground repels them.

That said, the possibility of getting another flying site is plenty of motivation for me to put my feelings aside. And like most of us, once I get into it the competitive juices kick in and I want to do the best job I can.

I hadn't considered rotor building and the implications for future WS rules. Good point!

Just for curiosity, if not inappropriate on this group, why the reluctance to help Helicopter? Seems to be a common theme and one I've never understood.
One of the ulterior motives when we wrote these rules was to prove that students COULD build propellors for when Wright Stuff eventually returns. And these students should easily transition to more conventional indoor competition, like WS because they can already build light and build props.
