I started poking around the web and found that the line you refer to probably is "flyline backer". It goes on the fishing reel spool first so that if you run out of flyline, which is relatively short, you won't lose the fish. It comes in both Dacron and one of the fluorocarbon materials. I think the Dacron would be the better choice, as it is bigger and can be seen more easily. It is available in 20 or 30 pound strengths and in bright yellow, orange or chartreuse.
