Even so, you will someday want to have infinite adjustment ability concerning whatever rubber you want, but this is an excellent way to start--help from local flyers. To answer your specifics--an F1d built to correct weight with the usual 19" VP prop for high ceiling will use loops about 9.0" loops or slightly longer. This means approximately .050" X .042 rubber, give or take a couple thousanths, since often the factory thickness will not be 042". For low ceiling flying, go slightly thicker, such as .053 to .055" X 042". I have used as thick as 8.1" loops for low ceiling F1d. (That's about .056" wide, dependent upon factory thickness, often variable.)
