In Michigan the term invitational in relation to SO tournaments means "Come one, come all". Whoever can pay the tournament fee can participate.

I think that is the standard across the country, but can't verify it. And I expect its not completely universal.

So perhaps that's the context we should take it, it seems clear thats what the original poster meant by the wording since it clearly invited anyone and everyone.

Agree its sad that it was ever otherwise at USIC.
