The purpose of the short tubes placed over motors near the rear hook & prop hook is to prevent the knots formed during unwinding in these two areas from bunching up and stopping the prop from turning or preventing the motor from fully unwinding. I don't believe that violates the rule. If it does violate the rule then so does bunching of knots & they too should be illegal. I submit that is another example of the unintended consequences of rules &/or rules changes.

Here is the rule from AM Easy B, 19.2.11:
“it is prohibited to use any scheme, device, or mechanism which affects the rate of energy release from the rubber, except for propeller blade flare or deformation.”
I would say straws/tubing would clearly violate this rule.
Have any other CDs made a ruling on this?

Don,
Looks like drinking straw sleeves are widely used on several events including Bostonian, Mini-Stick, P-24, and probably many others. These are intended to be "torque savers", not torques burners, by minimizing the likelihood of knots stopping a prop. Are O-rings rubber motor aids?

Do my proposed AMA A-6 rules need clauses specifically banning:
--microfilm?
--torque burners, a la Easy B rule 19.2.11? Interestingly this wording would ban the drinking straw sleeves that some top flyers use. Can’t say I don’t agree with such an all-encompassing ban on rubber motor “aids.” Definitely not in keeping with the spirit and intent of A-6.
Thoughts?
I can make changes to the basic proposal until March 15.
