Marty,

From one Physics Instructor to another, your suggestion is the best I've seen. Everybody is happy!

Ken made a great suggestion a couple of days ago to have different
'divisions' of A-6 and variations have been posted as well. I
experienced this approach to excellent effect racing Hobie Cat
sailboats; where racers begin in 'C' fleet and follow rules about
advancement into 'B' fleet and ultimately into 'A' fleet. If applied to
A-6, one would fly in a 'beginners' division until winning one trophy or
until making a personal choice to jump into the regular group. IMHO
this would allow one set of good rules which does allow plastic film and
a light minimum mass (perhaps a compromise 1.5 grams) but leaves
newcomers a chance of going home with a trophy by competing with other
relative newcomers. While it would require an additional set of
trophies at competitions, it would encourage newbies to build and
compete and hopefully get hooked on the hobby. And that would be a very
good thing!
Best, Marty

"Does my life have meaning?"
Most teachers answer it emphatically:
"Absolutely! YES!"
