Actually there several things that seem to be causing grief. Don's proposed rules bring back the 15 si max for stab area which hasn't been used for a number of years. Others are trying to increase the minimum weight to make it easier for true beginners (and some non-beginners) to build a competitive ship.

My personal A6 which holds the site record at the Auditorium has an illegal stab by Don's rules so I may build a new one before the PPCC.

I've been pushing to end the covering restriction for a couple of years. The only REASONABLE objection that I've heard is that indoor Mylar would allow more weight to be put into the structure which could be an advantage in a high ceiling A6.

Mark Bennett came up with an interesting counter proposal for the covering that would allow grocery produce bags or any similar material to be used for covering. I've used this stuff on gliders and found it pretty easy to work with. On the surface this sounds difficult to enforce but I think any indoor CD could tell the difference between this material and something like Ultrafilm or any of the lighter films.

The lightest weights reported for this type of material are in the same ballpark as the lightest condenser paper so it would give no competitive advantage over an already legal ship covered with condenser paper.

I'm on the indoor contest board and plan to vote for making A6 an official event regardless of what rules are finally decided on. I also have in a rules proposal to make F1M an official AMA event. I think this is way overdue.

The Indoor guys have their panties in the bunch over the proposed A6 rules which are about as innocuous as any change you're apt to run across. The best thing that could happen to A6 is the loss of the condenser paper requirement and that is mostly what all the fuss is about.

Personally having been bitten by the instability of CP I applaud the hoped for change. Can we try a provisional run at the new rules for our contest in late February?
