Ray,
I was actually thinking of using the strait portion to join the motor stick
to the stub the way that Jim Richmond does. His method involves less
material at the joint so its inherently lighter. Then I was going to use the
traditional taper for the rest of the boom. Your quite right, trying to get
high tolerance fits with something that expands on contracts with the
weather would be a perpetual problem.
