I agree. Warren Williams used to cut Nylon tubing, then bake on a cookie sheet (watching closely), ending up with nice donut shaped ring. Quality Nylon used for hydraulic line or cable guide & available in many sizes _at_ Aircraft Spruce & Specialty + many other places.

Aluminum or steel wire can be formed into figure 8 shape with round nose pliers or simple wire jig, similar to pigtail jig, if you prefer metal.

I would suggest you try hard plastic tubing instead of either of the other
choices you mention.
