Hmm, with an Oppegard I'm expecting variation within .002" at worst. And "too thin" begins to happen for me at around .015" width, so you should be able to nail .025". But hard to troubleshoot technique online.

Water probably won't help anything, rust or not.

If your first cut is wiggly, then yes, every subsequent cut from that piece is also likely to be inconsistent. If all you have is 1/4" wide, maybe split that into two good 1/8" strips, in order to have a second chance with a good edge should you ruin the first one. But when everything goes right you can take a slice off of either edge until it gets too small, if that's what you're asking.

If you're sure you have correct pressure (actually lack of much pressure) from the guide blocks, then it may be your feeding process. I turn crank slowly, and make sure the pile of rubber on the input side is easily pulled into the stripper, with the tension even throughout the session, meaning same approximate length (weight) of rubber hanging off. And not a 36" tail to the rubber pile, but 8" (or whatever) throughout the process, with no tangles that the blades have to work through.

Can you get nice consistent wider cuts? Has stripper been dropped on floor?
