I don't think so. The plunger is plastic, and thus quite light. Besides,
if it worked only on gravity, you would need to keep it vertical. If it
is spring- or rubberband-loaded, you can work it in any position.

The spring is a quite ordinary spiral-wound pull spring, so it should be
quite straightforward to wind another one from thinner wire, or one
might even find a ready-made spring for replacement.
