The first pic shows my first two failed attempts, and the ones that work. The first one was too narrow, and I couldn't get it off the stick easily. The second one is too heavy (1/64th ply). The third one it the partial motor shield that Brett made. It works great. Last is my expanded copy.
You have to work out the best arrangement for your loading style, launch style, etc.
I made my shield shorter so that I could hold the front "o" ring like I'm used to. I figure my fingers are protecting that area anyway.
Brett's design has a vertical piece by the prop hanger to protect against the broken motor wrapping around. It wants to come up the right hand side due to the direction we wind.
While I was working out how to release the shield, I added a vertical section at the rear, too. It helped move the shield off the stick when I pushed the front to the side. I decided that was too much stress on the stick and changed the release method, but left the rear vertical part.
Bob has a little thread loop and a tab to flick the shield off the stick, I believe. I couldn't do that because I launch from the right side and the vertical sections required the shield to come off the right side.
Brett uses the hand that was holding the rear hook to grab the shield in the middle and pull it off. That looked like too much stick stress to me, too.
I've ended up using the ring finger of each hand to push the shield toward me and off the stick, while holding on to the rear hook and front "o" ring.
