Re: F1D Motorstick blast shield
John
I seem to remember picking up the idea from John Tipper (who holds the Slanic record) and spent some time developing my own workable version which wasn't too heavy and cumbersome and which could be easily detached before launching.
It's highly probable that Ron derived the basic principle and passed it on to John since Ron was a very gifted and innovative flier. I owe much of my progress in indoor to him; he and I had many chats in his last years when he stopped for a coffee on his way home to Norfolk after the day's work in Hertfordshire.
I was one who suffered the problem at the Cargolifter despite being reasonably conservative with the wind; the motor blew just as I launched the model and that was that!

Who came up with the blast shield idea? My foggy head remembers first seeing Bob Bailey with one.
I copied and expanded the partial motor one that Sanborn made for me in Serbia, and am completely sold on the idea now.
