Thanks, Don, I just found a 43 footer with a tip from Richard Szanti,
who's on the list. I first was thinking of the 40 footer but your
suggestion of removing the tip section makes a lot of sense. I've been
using a 30' fiberglass pole till now and I wouldn't even think about
trying to steer with it - I might actually even try it with the carbon
fiber pole.

You want the stiffest pole you can get. A too-flexible steering pole is
pretty dangerous when it contacts a very fragile model like an EZB or
F1D. I have seen guys slice right through LEs with a whippy steering
pole.
 
I suggest getting a pole that is a couple feet longer than you need to
reach the ceiling comfortably, then removing the tip section.

Check out thier site, they do have a 40' pole 'on sale' for $109
(http://www.allfishingbuy.com/Fishing-Pole-12-16.htm). I'm not sure about
the stiffness though. I know what I would want for fishing but I
wonder which type/stiffness would be best for retrieval or guiding ?
