Those tubes sound extremely heavy. I use jap or other lightweight tissue, about 31/2 turns and tubes are wound with Ambroid thinned 50% with solvent. Paint cement on to mandrel before winding on paper and keep paper well wetted with cement. They won't jam on the mandrel. My tubes ate about 2mm dia.

Subject: [Indoor_Construction] Prop hub - paper tubes

Started working on some new hubs for F1M and later F1D. The thing that
makes me wonder is the use of paper tubes to hold the blades. I have been
using them as they make adjusting and changing the blades so easy. But the
tubes seem to be heavy - a pair of 2.5mm (1/10") tubes about 12mm (1/2")
long weight almost 100mg. Am I making my tubes too heavy, or are they just
like that? Is there a better way to attach blades to the hub?
