You might also want to consider make it yourself wire pigtail
bearings. Well within the students capabilities. Specific
instructions can be found in this groups archives and on
www.indoorduration.com

I'll emphasize just ONE item from those that made these VASTLY easier
for me to make. The straight wire you form the bearing on should be
held tightly tensioned in some sort of frame to keep it dead straight
as the bearing is bent around it. I found a jeweler's jig saw frame
works like a charm.
