Since there has been all this conversation about "opaque" I have to add
my contribution to the discussion.

The draft rules I received (from an unnamed source) do not contain the
word opaque. The words are "Any surfaces that are set vertically such
as fins or wing tip fences shall have two color markings covering the
whole surface."

There are just about as many nits to pick in those sentences, without
anything about "opaque". For example:

How close to true vertical must the surfaces be?

Precisely what does "two color markings" mean?

The sentences quoted above are preceded by the sentence, "The
airplane(s) must be marked so that the judges can identify to which team
they belong." So we know the objective of the rule. Obviously the
rules want to avoid two stripes made with two colored marking pens.

Two pieces of Esaki would seem OK. However, can one color be on one
wing tip and another color on the other? Or does the same pattern need
to appear on both wingtips (or rudders)?

Let us hope that Tom Sanders is listening in and can get clarifications
made before the final rules are published.
