Nick,

Several instances while timing flights I have had to start and stop a third watch extremely fast because plane being steered by balloon was
being hauled fair distance with propeller running then suddenly to stop, if for only a moment, repeatedly . Believe I did a good job but always looked at the stop watch after steering was completed to make sure watch wasn't still running from last click. I've not concluded all steering time should be deducted or stay the way it is today. From timers stand point only it can get intense starting and stopping steering clock. In circumstance explained above and yours of tapping the plane with pole how is a timer to know clock shouldn't be started because it is only going to be for a thousandths of second?

  Greetings Hack,

Totally impractical and impossible. You cannot deduct thousandths of
a second for every slight touch with a pole. Also, don't forget that
many timekeepers in an event of this stature will be unfamiliar with
F1D's - some may be unfamiliar with modelling of any sort. The prop
stop time recorded by GBR timekeepers in Belgrade tallied with my own
watch exactly and the prop stop time is the most important factor
here. The timekeepers in Belgrade were very very well briefed and on
the ball and no major errors occurred.

I saw no evidence whatsoever of altitude gain through pointing a
model into wind. Although the drift was bad, we weren't sailing model
  racing yachts in belgrade.

The balcony was deemed to be the floor - I asked that question
specifically at the TM briefing and I totally agree with the ruling
as did all TM's. Again, it's the same for all so no advantage for
  anyone.

  Nick.
