Morning, Leroy: Yeah, I use a sharp 4" block plane, clamp it in the
vise and slide the skewer over the blade holding it down with finger (or
thumb) pressure - works for me. (;-') 'Course the plane needs to
really sharp.

Dunno about not being allowed, never was asked at a meet.

I do use a homemade "draw plate" for final finishing on sticks, has
several holes of gradually smaller sizes and I pull the sticks thru
with pliers. I make from a steel washer and leave the drill burr on as
a cutting edge.
