My guesses would be Ed Whitten and Ron Williams. I was not involved in indoor FF at that time and never met either of them but do have Ron Williams' book. My kids watched 3-2-1 Contact.

The first time I ever saw indoor free flight was on an episode of an
old PBS children's show called "3-2-1 Contact". There was an episode
in 1983 that featured indoor free flight at Columbia University. Does
anyone else remember that, and who would have been the flyers featured
  there? Anyone still active today?

  Thanks,
  Eric Monda
