Hi Mike,
Double Whammy is a design by Chuck Markos (a well
known Free-flighter)and is a basic rudder model(tissue
covered) for the beginner that is looking for
something that flies a little better than a Delta
Dart. I believe the Double Whammy design was in Model
Aviation a few year ago. It is a tissue covered
model, about 18" wingspan, ~4" chord, no airfoil and
uses a 5.5" plastic prop. It is very popular event in
the Chicago area where Chuck lives.
Now a different but related event to the one just
held at MWC is called Cash Bash. The Bong Eagles hold
this event at there indoor contests. Cash Bash is
typically well attended and very fun. Cash Bash
requires you use a Double Whammy model and is a mass
launch elimination event(usually eliminate the first 3
or 4 model down) where the CD supplies the rubber
band. You must use the rudder band supplied by the CD
so it makes things very interesting. (You break the
rubber band you tie it up and fly with it.) Also you
never know what the CD is going to bring for the
rubber. One time they gave us some old Pirelli
rudder. Wow did that rubber have the torque, all of
us were struggling to adjust our model to fly on that
stuff!
Sorry for the long answer to your question,
Kurt
