Re: Steering poles (again)
I found that my new pole had an additional section at the top that wasn't extended when I first measured it. It is VERY tiny! It also came with an extra top section that would replace the original top 2 sections and is a little larger and stiffer. I'll probably use this piece instead of the smaller but longer top 2 sections.
The actual extended length with the 2 smaller sections at the top is 33'-4" and with the single top section is 32'-4".

I have a 20 foot and the 12 meter carbon telescoping poles, the 20 foot is much stiffer than any fibreglass pole of the same length, the 12 meter needs a little more care in using but is safe to steer with. If I need less height I just don't extend the top couple of sections which are quite thin. The advantage is the ability to quickly extend or retract the pole while flying. The more expensive put over poles are stiffer because they are of a greater diameter but the problems assembling and disassembling them while flying to me cancels out any stiffness advantage.

Ray's pole is a Maver and it is light and stiff and if I could afford
it, I would buy one right away. The other poles are more flexible.
The ad for your new pole says that it is flexible, flexibility seems
to be a feature for fishing. For steering it seems that the pole
should be stiffer for better control. Is this true or am I off base
with that?
