In the contests I've flown in the complete motor, with lube (maybe
wiped off), plus O-rings is usually weighed at the end of an official
flight. In the case of the World Champs in Slanic the motor was removed
from the model by the flyer and handed to the two timers at the
conclusion of each flight. The timers weigh the motor, observed by the
flyer before recording the official time.
In the US team finals the motor is brought to the CD for weighing.
The model itself is processed for span, 1.2g weight, stab span and
(sometimes) wing chord before the flight.
My comment was that in all the contests I've participated in I don't
recall anyone cutting off O-rings to make weight. But that option is
available if the flyer is desperate.
