I don't remove the rubber.  I keep it on the plane so the length isn't  
altered.  I have a wire V  with hooks at the top of each leg.   The base of the V 
goes in the torque meter hook and the hooks at the tops of the  V legs engage 
the prop spars.  The torque is thus measured directly from  the prop.
