The compliments are greatly appreciated, thank you. I can't stress
enough how much credit is due to Jeff Hood, the man is a rock star.
The entire website, including the members section allowing downloads
is totally his work. He has updated our software all around,
including the editing software which allowd for some of the cool
"effects" in this issue, and really put a ton of work in here.
Marty – the table of contents is a good idea, the question is whether
or not we want to give up page space. This issue was 56 pages, which
we'll have to consider carefully in the future as it puts some more
stress on our already tight budget. One idea we are kicking around is
making the online versions searchable, so you could more easily find
articles. If this project gets up and running, it too will be due to
Jeff's technical expertise. Rockstar.
We have some other ideas, including making hardcover collections of
INAV available for purchase at reasonable prices, with some of the
proceeds going to the junior fund and some going to help our
publishing budget. If that sounds like something folks would be
interested in, please let us know.
As for Lutz's wing, this is what Nick Aikman told me via email –
hopefully he doesn't mind me reprinting it here (if there is enough
interest maybe we can try to convince Lutz to write up something for us):
The spars are made on curved jigs/templates, with the parabolic curve
built-in and held in tension by boron top and bottom - more pieces
near the centre of the wing. These spars are then transferred to a
matching curved building board and the rest of the wing is built in
the normal way.
The covering is applied with a curved frame of film, correctly
tensioned and slowly lowered on top of the wing by using a vertical
steel rod at each end of the frame, sliding through a hole in the
frame at each end as the film is pushed downwards. This locates the
pre-SprayMounted film in the right place.
To quote Nick one more time: "It's a stroll in the park."
Back to the grind, cheers,
Tony
