Marty Sasaki noted, regarding the relocated Empire State Indoor
Championships at an armory in Rochester, NY:

"Looks like a lot of flying for a single day of flying. Is the armory
large enough for both "heavy" and "light" flying at the same time?"

Good question, Marty. Unlike the Buffalo Bills fieldhouse, where the huge
200' x 400' floor area allowed light and heavy models to fly simultaneously,
we have a smaller 130' x 175' area in the Main Street Armory where this
year's ESIC will be held. And that's cut into a bit at one end by an open
rectangular stage lighting frame that hangs at one end. We will have a
flying schedule that will keep the air safe for whatever models are flying
at any particular time, something like the Cloudbusters do at the golf dome
in Flint, MI. No, the "lights" and "heavies" can't fly together.

Here's the basic information on the contest, which will take place on
Sunday, April 22. Co-sponsors, as for past ESIC contests, are the Western
New York Free Flight Society and the Flying Aces Club.

Seven AMA events:

Mini Stick, Standard Class Catapult Glider, Intermediate Stick, 7-gram
Bostonian, Limited Penny Plane, AMA Easy B, F1D.

Seven FAC events:

FAC Scale, FAC Peanut, Hi Wing Peanut, No-Cal Scale (6.2g minimum), WWII
No-Cal Combat (6.2g minimum), Dime Scale, Golden Age Civil Scale.

Two special events:

- Phantom Horde for stock Phantom Flash models built and decorated per plan,
3.5 gram minimum weight.

- Science Olympiad Wright Stuff event for senior high students. 2007 WS
rules apply except there will be no time limit to make three official
flights.

The Armory is an AMA Category II site. Highest point of gently arched girder
base is 45 ft. 1 inch above the floor. $20.00 flies all open events; $1.00
covers juniors and Wright Stuff fliers.

armory interior. I hope some of you will join us for this year's ESIC.
