I have visions of swinging my pole in a big circle to expand it and then being escorted out of the building and beat to a pulp by several other flyers!

Please tell me my memory is not that bad. I have never owned a steering
pole but some years ago when I used to fly a bit of indoor I regularly
begged the use of other people's. I seem to recollect that a lot of the
poles could be used as put-over or telescopic. I am sure that some flyers,
having forgotten to assemble their pole and needing it in a hurry would just
swing in a circle and expand the pole telescopically (should that be
un-telescopically?) by CF. Later they would reassemble it as a put-over.

One thing is for sure; the telescoped ones would sometimes let down with a
clatter at the wrong moment and in the monastic quiet of an indoor site it
would scare the living daylights out of you.
