The Chilton Mini Stick plan is more specifically here:

Thanks for the lead, Bill. This answers a lot of questions.

The stick is "sideways"; its greater cross section dimension is horizontal.
The prop hanger is on the right side with 5 degrees of left and zero degrees
down. Banking left would produce a very small down thrust. I haven't seen
it fly, so can't even guess how much.

Left thrust offset to the right will produce a left turn and a left
sideslip. The left sideslip will produce a right roll. These effects will be more
or less in proportion to torque. So it is a good way to balance the left
torque roll from the motor, while producing a left turn. Having the motor off to
the right may produce a bending of the motor stick to produce a little right
rudder. It requires a very delicate balance to find a setup that will
maintain a consistent flight circle with the torque winding down. Relying on only
right rudder or wing twist may make the circle open up as torque winds down.
Using effects that are proportionate to torque keeps things better in
balance.
