Rubber Lube

Since rubber lube is in the discussion about tying up motors, here's a
way to convert plain Son of a Gun into a super lube.
Place Son of Gun it in an edged cookie sheet about 1/16" deep. Cook
the solution in a 200 degree oven until it clears up and it will have
the consistency and color of sewing machine oil. There will usually be
a small amount that will have an amber color and that will settle to
the bottom of the storage container. Some of the guys use it when it
has thickened up but is still white. I prefer to go a step further and
evaporate all of the emulsifiers out of it. It can be air dried in a
hot garage but that takes weeks and the pan or sheet needs to be
covered to keep bugs and dust out of the liquid. Since it's a silicone
based liquid and is thicker now, the motor only needs to be lubed once
during the flying session and it won't splatter. I've stored them in
coin envelopes without washing off the lube with no ill effects.
