Bill:

I agree with you. A reasonable interpretation of the 2007 SciOly
Wright Stuff rules permit, in my opinion, cutting the spars of an
Ikara and re-gluing the same in order to achieve a different pitch.

Rule 2. e) states: "[t]rimming/shaving/twisting is also permitted
to . . . change its pitch." The dictionary definition of "trimming"
includes cutting. As a general rule, in SciOly, if it is not
prohibited in the rules, you can do it, so long as it is safe and
does not violate the spirit of the rules. The spirit of rule 2.e) is
to allow modifications, including change of pitch, to standard
commercially available plastic props, e.g. Ikara props. Moreover,
the spirit of the rules clearly permits glue on the props, especially
for repairs. The thin plastic blades of the Ikara props often detach
from the spars.

Just bring an assortment of props to the competition so if one gets
DQed (before your flights), you have a replacement ready.

While we are on the subject, how do you heat the Ikara spars so you
can bend them safely and reliably?
