Yes, you're right - the rules have been relaxed back to how they were
a few weeks ago.

However, our understanding here is that this will be no good to any
of you unless your boxes are specifically less than 56 X 25 X 45 cms.
The officials here are being very very picky with the dimensions - at
our recent Nats, one of the Irish flyers was not allowed to put his
model box on board in Dublin because one rivet stood proud of the
measuring box at check-in. The measuring boxes are new here and give
a simple go/no go on size. So, unless you all plan to saw a few cms
off your box length, I think you'll be consigned to the luggage hold.
These regs are supposed to be Europe-wide.

We're all building 'Russian doll' type card/foam/bubble wrap
contraptions, fully expecting to go in the hold - we also looked into
driving and going by train but both are impractical.

Musician's were allowed to carry on other larger instruments also.
