Subject: [Indoor_Construction] Wright Stuff rules for 2007
A retired teacher friend of mine, who also happens to be the Rochester
regional Science Olympiad coordinator, has given me copies of the high
school and middle school model aircraft event rules for 2007. Perhaps some
of you have seen them too. Here are some highlights.
High School Wright Stuff
- Monoplanes only.
- 50 cm wingspan limit.
- 7 cm chord limit.
- 30 cm max stabilizer span.
- 4.5 cm max stabilizer chord.
- Prop diameter max of 18.5 cm.
- Mass, less rubber, no less than 7 grams
- Mass of rubber motor no more than 2 grams.
- State competition flight time bonus of 10% for a pusher propeller model.
Prop must be located behind wing.
- National competition flight time bonus of 10% for a canard pusher.
("Stabilizer is located in front of the wing and the propeller is located
behind the wing.")
Balloon launch glider will be the aeromodeling event for middle schools.
- Total mass of glider not to be less than 2 grams "throughout the flight."
- Max span of 40 cm.
- Max chord of 10 cm.
- Max stabilizer span of 28 cm.
Gentlemen, man your drafting boards!
