Beyond the better appearance (?) mentioned by doctorgonzo788, there
are also some who claim the slight surface roughness REDUCES drag -
something about breaking up the turbulence at the boundary layer.
Would be interesting to see just how different two identical planes,
with the smooth versus wrinkled films, perform.
