Stripping Rubber

I just received Harlans rubber stripper and I can't quite figure it
out. I played with it last night trying to cut some thin stuff
(ministick) and could not get any consistancy. Here's my questions,1.
what size rubber do you have to start with. 2 what kind of measuring
device do you use(I have a digital caliper) 3. what am I doing wrong,
the adjustments make no sense to me, and they don't really seem clear
in the instructions.
